In this article, we have compiled the most frequent issues you may encounter, along with video tutorials for resolving them.

How to Adjust Plastic Windows: Sash Closes with Difficulty or Does Not Close at All

A possible cause is sash sagging. If the window is difficult to open or close, the most common cause is improper seating of the sash in the frame. The sash may be slightly sagging, which prevents it from closing completely or causes it to catch when closing. This problem is common and can be easily resolved by adjusting (tightening) the screws on the hardware.

Sash Sagging – Video Tutorials

Lifting an Aluminum Sash When Sagging

Lifting a PVC Sash When Sagging

How to Adjust Plastic Windows: Handle Operates with Difficulty

The cause may be excessively tight pressure adjustment, unlubricated hardware, damaged hardware, or improper installation. Below are two tips you can try to resolve this problem: adjusting window pressure and lubricating the hardware. If these steps do not resolve the problem, we recommend contacting your window supplier.

Handle Operates with Difficulty: Video Tutorials

Adjusting Pressure on Aluminum Windows (to improve difficult handle operation or fine-tune sealing)

Adjusting Pressure on PVC Windows (to improve difficult handle operation or fine-tune sealing)

Adjusting Pressure on Aluminum Doors (to improve difficult handle operation or fine-tune sealing)

Difficult Handle Operation – Lubricating the Hardware

The hardware should be lubricated. Use oil for the sliding surfaces of the hardware. Use technical petroleum jelly for the locking pins and their frame counterparts (interlocking closing components).

Lubricating the Hardware (resolving difficult handle operation)

How to Adjust Plastic Windows: Windows and Doors Seal Poorly

The solution may be to adjust the pressure according to the video tutorials above.

How to Adjust Plastic Windows: Condensation on the Interior Surface of Windows

Condensation on the Interior Surface (from the interior)

In most cases, this is not a window defect. It forms when the humidity level in the interior is high (cooking, drying laundry, bathing, etc.). The situation will improve significantly with regular ventilation.

Interval Ventilation or “Window Wide Open”: The Ideal Ventilation Method

Optimal protection against moisture damage is provided by so-called interval ventilation. In simple terms: “window wide open.” This is a more efficient method of air exchange and energy savings than ventilation using a “vent.”

Ideally, ventilate several times a day by opening the window in the room.

The duration of ventilation varies depending on the outdoor temperature. In winter, it should not exceed 4-6 minutes. During this time, the air is exchanged while thermal energy in the house is preserved.

When Is Condensation a Problem?

It is a problem when condensation appears in the space between the insulating glass panes. In that case, it is a glass defect. If you find yourself in this situation, contact your window supplier.

Condensation on the Exterior Side

This is not a cause for concern. On the contrary – it is a sign of good thermal insulation.
Condensation on the outside of windows occurs mainly during transitional periods (spring, autumn), when the outdoor air is cold and humid. Because modern windows with triple-pane insulating glass allow almost no heat to escape from the interior, the outer pane of glass remains cold. When its temperature drops below the dew point of the air – moisture from the air condenses on the glass surface.

More videos on adjusting windows and doors can be found on our YOUTUBE profile.
