BAU in Munich: A Construction Trade Fair with 1/4 Million Professionals from 150 Countries Worldwide 🌍🌐🌎

Sustainability in Construction: A Key Theme

We were also present. BAU takes place every two years in Munich, occupying all 19 exhibition halls across an area of 200,000 m². It’s magnificent! It’s impossible to see everything. This year, the trade fair focused on key themes:

  • transformation of cities and rural areas
  • resource conservation
  • resilient and climate-friendly construction
  • increasing productivity through modular construction
  • economic construction using robotics and artificial intelligence

SCHÜCO: Preferring Renovation of Existing Structures Over Demolition and New Builds

The SCHÜCO stand is consistently just as impressive. Here too, the exhibits were presented in the spirit of renovations and the circular economy. Inspired by the motto “Value Up”, we explored how to technologically restore the value of old infill structures. At the SCHÜCO stand, we observed the installation of new windows into original old aluminum frames using a special repair frame. We also saw the modification of Curtain wall from double glazing to triple glazing.

Significant attention was also given to the SCHÜCO perfect concept. This is a comprehensive modular system solution for integrating shading, insect screens, railings, sills, and reveal coverings into windows, whether aluminum windows or sliding portals.

The Future Lies in Enhancing the Value of Existing Buildings

Given rising material costs, a shortage of skilled workers, and strict environmental regulations, SCHÜCO focuses on adaptive reuse of buildings and reducing the carbon footprint through modern solutions.

What Does Adaptive Reuse of Buildings Mean?

Imagine you have a favorite piece of clothing that’s a bit old and worn. Instead of throwing it away, you can repair it, dye it, or use it for something else. Adaptive reuse of buildings means something similar – instead of demolishing an old building, we repair and modify it to serve a new purpose. For example, an old factory can be transformed into a school or a shop. This way, we save materials and reduce waste of natural resources.

Following the motto “Value Up”, we were inspired by how to technologically restore the value of old infill structures.

Why Is Addressing the Carbon Footprint Important?

A carbon footprint is the amount of gases we release into the atmosphere through various activities – for example, when we use electricity, a car, or when clothes and toys are manufactured. These gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), cause our planet to warm up.

When we strive to reduce our carbon footprint, it means we are doing things in a way that emits fewer of these harmful gases – for example, by recycling, using eco-friendly materials, or saving energy. The construction industry is a significant producer of gases, and therefore, it is crucial to start looking at construction in a completely different way.

SCHÜCO: Solutions for Window Renovations and Repairs

One of the main focuses of the presentation at BAU 2025 was efficient solutions for renovating existing buildings. SCHÜCO offers a wide range of products that enable easy window repair, including modernizing older systems, as well as installing new elements. Modernization applies not only to plastic window repairs but also to solutions for plastic door repairs, with comprehensive options available to increase the energy efficiency of buildings.

Innovative Products for Sealing and Security

In addition to solutions for plastic window repairs, SCHÜCO also presented innovative solutions in the area of security and living comfort. These include high-quality seals for entrance doors, which improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of the building and extend the lifespan of door systems. These solutions are ideal not only for new constructions but also for renovations where fast and efficient project implementation is important.

The Schüco Perfect modular system, presented at the trade fair, allows for easy replacement and addition of components, such as sunshades, safety barriers, or sills, which significantly simplifies the entire renovation process.

Sustainable Development with a Low Carbon Footprint

SCHÜCO actively contributes to environmental protection through the Carbon Control program, which covers the entire life cycle of buildings from planning to demolition. By selecting materials with low carbon content, such as Low Carbon (LC) and Ultra Low Carbon (ULC) aluminum profiles, the ecological impact of construction projects is significantly reduced.

Conclusion

At the BAU 2025 trade fair, SCHÜCO demonstrated that the future of construction lies in intelligent and sustainable solutions that save resources and reduce costs. Whether it’s window repair, plastic window repairs, or if you are looking for reliable entrance door sealing, SCHÜCO offers comprehensive solutions for every type of project.
