Modern windows are now manufactured from various materials. PVC, aluminum, or wood—each has its own advantages and limitations. So, how should you approach the selection process?

Is there an ideal material for windows?

Choosing windows and doors is one of the most important decisions when creating a new home. High-quality windows can emphasize your living style, protect you and your family from noise or burglary, and simultaneously help save on heating costs. Modern windows are now produced from several materials, and each has its own advantages and limitations. How do you correctly choose between PVC, aluminum, or perhaps wood?

PVC or aluminum? Consider several factors.

Each of these materials has unique properties suitable for different types of households and architectural styles. For some, thermal insulation may be the priority; for others, aesthetics or a long-term investment in energy efficiency. We will help you find the right solution that best fits your ideas and needs. PVC – An economical choice even for energy-intensive projects

Don’t like white PVC? No problem.

High-quality PVC lamination is an option. There is a wide range of laminating foils available that are applied to the profile. A popular choice is wood-decor foils, which combine the appearance of wood with the properties of PVC windows. In addition to wood imitation, other colors are available that suit neutral, modern, or classic buildings. Thus, even PVC can harmoniously complement various architectural styles.

What are the aesthetic limitations of PVC?

Thicker profiles

Due to lower strength, PVC profiles are slightly thicker than aluminum profiles. For large glazed areas in modern architecture, a thicker profile can disrupt the minimalist look.

Limited color range

Although PVC offers various color options, the range of colors and finishes is still more limited compared to aluminum.

Is PVC the right material for my project?

If you need a more economical investment while achieving a high level of thermal insulation, PVC is an excellent choice. PVC is an easy-to-maintain material that does not require regular painting or special treatment, which is particularly practical in busy households. It is still widely used in family houses and apartments.

Aluminum: Elegance and Modern Style

Minimalist design and large-format glazing

Aluminum is a very strong and durable material, allowing for the construction of narrow profiles even for large window dimensions. Thanks to the thin frames of aluminum windows, the glazing area is maximized, bringing in more natural light and supporting an open, airy interior look. This minimalist style is ideal for modern homes and commercial buildings.

A world of colors

Aluminum offers a vast number of color options thanks to powder coating. You can choose from hundreds of color shades and variations such as matte, glossy, or textured. The choice is practically unlimited—customers can select any color that matches the design of the house.

Aluminum is a better choice for entrance doors

The entrance to a home is a high-traffic area. Doors are opened and closed many times a day. As a stronger material, aluminum withstands such high frequency of use better. It is also less susceptible to temperature differences between the exterior and interior. For this reason, if you are considering an entrance door that will be used frequently, aluminum is certainly more suitable. Of course, it is possible to design functional PVC doors, but we always recommend consulting their design with an expert, as it is essential to consider many factors such as frequency of use, color, orientation to the sun, whether they will be protected by a canopy, what weather they will be exposed to, etc. All these factors can affect the long-term durability and functionality of the door.

“Thanks to the thin frames of aluminum windows, the glazing area is maximized, bringing in more natural light and supporting an open, airy interior look. Remove the barrier between the interior and exterior and be fascinated by the nature around you.”

Is aluminum the right material for my project?

If you are planning designer large-format windows with narrow frames that provide maximum light access, aluminum is the ideal material. Aluminum windows are an investment that pays off over time, especially if you prefer high durability and low maintenance in more extreme conditions.

What if I care about the carbon footprint?

Using recycled aluminum reduces its carbon footprint by up to 95% compared to the extraction and processing of primary raw materials. Although aluminum processing is a very energy-intensive process, once extracted and processed, aluminum can be recycled indefinitely without losing its properties. This fact makes it the first choice among recycled window materials (from a carbon footprint perspective). PVC is an economical but environmentally more demanding choice. PVC can be recycled, although recycling processes can be more complex and less efficient compared to aluminum. Schüco BALANCED PVC contains 64% recycled material. This share of recycled material is constantly increasing, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact.
