PRIEVIDZA WINDOWS IN AMERICA
For years, we have also been manufacturing for demanding projects in the USA
We have been manufacturing windows and doors from the SCHÜCO system for more than 30 years. For over 20 of those years, we have been exporting windows to the USA, where they become part of projects we are rightly proud of. We focus on architecturally interesting projects and do not shy away from atypical solutions. We manufacture with an eye for detail. View a selection of our projects – not only those in the USA.
They rely on us in the USA – you can rely on us too
We produce custom-made products because we understand the individual needs of our customers.

Why large-format windows are the domain of aluminum
- Aluminum is a material with high strength and dimensional stability. From a structural and load-bearing perspective, it can handle even exceptionally large windows and doors.
- An aesthetic advantage is that aluminum allows for subtle (slim) frames even with large dimensions, while handling the weight of large triple-glazed panes.
- Aluminum in large-format windows provides long-term stability without deformation.
It is therefore not just about design, but primarily about the physics of the material.
Production limits of large-format windows – what is realistic and what is not
Due to the 420 kg crane capacity limit in the workshop, we cannot handle, manufacture, or load heavier elements. For fixed glazing in aluminum, the system weight limit is 500 kg. For PVC, it is 250 kg. For better visualization, 420 kg represents a glass dimension of 2,550 x 3,000 mm (when using standard triple glazing).

Thermal insulation properties of large windows – the larger the glass, the…
– better. Insulating glass has better insulation parameters than the profile. Therefore, the larger the glass area, the better the thermal insulation performance of the entire window. The Uw value of the window, which expresses this performance, decreases as the ratio of glass to profile increases. The lower the Uw value, the better the window insulates.
A surprising conclusion
The larger the window, the better the thermal insulation in the house? Not exactly. If we enlarge the window, we do so at the expense of the insulated wall, which has better parameters than the window. On the other hand, thermal gains from the window can also enter the calculation, but then we are talking about the thermal balance of the window. So it is not as simple as it might seem at first glance – we will be happy to explain the details.
Operating comfort of large-format windows and doors
- It is good to realize that these are elements with great weight (hundreds of kilograms – e.g., an aluminum lift-and-slide sash can weigh up to 500 kg). Such a heavy sash is difficult to “start” and stop, especially for smaller people or children.
- With larger elements, there are more hardware components; therefore, more force is often required to move the handle/hardware.
- Larger elements are more demanding to maintain and adjust.
What to consider with large-format windows
Shading – both exterior and interior
Interior overheating
Orientation to cardinal directions
Safety and laminated glass
Service and accessibility
Screens for large windows
Need for structural dimensioning by a designer
Higher cost
Large glazing and especially sliding elements have their user disadvantages. It is good to be aware of them before purchasing.
ACCESSORIES AND ADD-ONS
We can supply together with the windows
Window Color Options
Colours for both aluminium and PVC, special finishes – anodising, alu-clip
Handles and pull handles
Handles with child safety lock, lockable handles, handle designs and colours, pull-handle options
Insulating glass
Triple glazing vs. double glazing, special glass – safety, sun-protection, bird-protection, patterned glass.
WHY WE DO NOT HAVE A PRICE LIST
Large-format windows – price and what influences it
The price of windows and doors cannot be determined by a single number from a price list. We always calculate the price to suit the project. The final price is influenced by several factors:
Window dimensions
Glass configuration
Profile system
Type of surface finish
Complexity and type of installation
Handling equipment

FAQ – Large-format windows
For fixed glazing in aluminum, the system weight limit is 500 kg. For PVC, it is 250 kg. For better visualization, 420 kg represents a glass dimension of 2,550 x 3,000 mm (when using standard triple glazing).
Yes and no. Yes, if we look at the ratio to the window frame; the more glass in the frame, the better the Uw value of the window. No, in comparison with an insulated wall, where the window falls short.
Not entirely. In a plastic profile system, the maximum weight of fixed glazing is 250 kg. With a 6-6-6 glass composition, this means a dimension of 2,300 x 2,400 mm. It is less than for an aluminum system, but still a large fixed window.
Exterior shading is generally not a problem. However, insect screens can more often reach their limits with large window dimensions.
Safe against injury, yes, provided that glass with a correctly designed composition is used, and it is tempered or laminated according to STN 74 6200. However, this concerns health protection. A completely different topic is the requirement for increased resistance to burglary.
