A passive house is not only about a window with good parameters. Installation and its professional execution play a significant role.
Outboard installation
In passive buildings, outboard installation is often used.
This is a special method of installing windows in which the window plane is shifted into the plane of the thermal insulation.
The windows are either set into an opening created by profiles for outboard installation, which has the same dimensions as the structural opening, or they are applied to the concrete reveal from the exterior using an expansion tape—in that case, they are larger than the openings themselves.
